This is an amazing kit. It looks fantastic and it sounds fantastic. I have kept the original heads on as they simply just sound so nice. Even when you play it at low volume, it has a very nice clean tone. Very inspiring to play this kit.
It was a bass player colleque of mine who at a gig mentioned he knew of this old drum kit that might be for sale. I got in dialogue with the owner and a deal was made. The kit came with a superb Ludwig SupraPhonic, old stands and some Zildjian cymbals.
The snare drum in the picture was one I bought locally a few weeks later. You never see them around so finding this one made in the same year and month, is just to lucky. I think they are imported as a kit back in 1964 and separated at some point. But now they will stay as a family!
The kit was the most dirty kit I have ever renovated. The shell was covered in hard grease and I have spend so many hours getting them cleaned. Actually I think it is good they where so dirty, as it has protected the Black Diamond Pearl cortex. The chrome is in excellent condition.
The screws inside the shells was very rusty. I cleaned and kept them, keeping it all original.
Notice the little round rubber plug above each floor tom bracket. Makes no sense it is there. Any ideas?
